The story
Welschriesling is Central Europe's widespread white, and it has no relation to Riesling. Its origin is uncertain. It has a name in almost every country on the road: Ryzlink vlašský in Czechia, Olaszrizling in Hungary, Graševina in Croatia, Laški rizling in Slovenia. It is a signature grape of Czechia and Slovakia.
Most is dry and fresh: green apple, citrus, a light floral note and a bitter-almond finish. In the right sites and years it also makes sweet wine.
