The story
Plavac Mali is the red grape of the Dalmatian coast, a cross of Crljenak Kaštelanski and Dobričić. Crljenak Kaštelanski is the grape also known as Zinfandel, which makes Plavac Mali its offspring. It is one of Croatia's signature grapes, alongside Teran and Pošip.
It is the fullest wine on the road: ripe and dark, with dried cherry, fig and pepper, firm tannin and moderate acidity. It is often high in alcohol, and it wants food.
