The story
Muscaris was crossed at the Freiburg state viticulture institute in 1987 by Norbert Becker, from Solaris and Gelber Muskateller, the Yellow Muscat. It is a PIWI, like Solaris, and sits beside it in the Freiburg family. On the nose it belongs to its Muscat parent.
The wines are intensely aromatic: grape, elderflower, orange blossom, lychee. The palate is lighter than the perfume suggests, with moderate acidity and often a touch of sweetness. One glass is usually enough to recognise it again.
